Moments before the police gassed a crowd of protesters
I think they used pepper spray and not tear gas on everyone. It was orchestrated and planned and not specifically provoked. The other cops in line on horses started moving in, and this line of cops moved forward with pepper spray without warning.
To be sure, there was no warning. No call to move back. It was like an intentional secret they kept to strike without warning. @MinneapolisPD is further dividing itself from the community it is supposed to protect and serve.
People have asked me about the looting. To be sure, there were “two protests” happening within blocks of each other. One, right on Lake Street with rioting and burning taking place. And another on the other side of the precinct. Without warning or calls to disperse...
...the cops in line jumped in unison to spray and gas the crowd, many of whom were sitting. People panicked and ran—unable to see or breathe. The police in this case, around the block from the looting, acted without provocation on peaceful protesters.
I don’t know if anyone here was provoked enough to respond and join the riots. But I do know that the cops here descended on a group of peaceful protesters without warning.
