Thank you @Bihar_ke_lala for this thread. There was and there will be no one like Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Feel pity for colonial slaves who make fun of him just on the basis of a letter. A visit to Cellular Jail in Port Blair would put things into perspective. https://twitter.com/Bihar_ke_lala/status/1265727418813353987
I had visited Andaman and Nicobar islands in 2012, and Cellular Jail seemed like just another touristy place but the moment I entered there, my perspective towards the Indian Freedom Struggle and the so-called freedom fighters changed forever. It was a grim overcast day.
Let's have a look at the layout of the jail. Seven wings of the building were connected through a central Tower which served as an intersection and was used by guards to keep watch on each wing.
The Cellular Jail Museum has some very inspiring quotes by the men who gave it all to see an independent Bharat.
Some snippets of the bloodied history. Sorry if not readable, took these pics from my Facebook album, don't know where are the HQ pics.
The meagre prison cell of the man himself, #VeerSavarkar
The bar fetters which were imposed on the non confirming prisoners. The lightest were chain fetters followed by the bar fetters and the cross bar fetters with the latter being most painful to wear.
The tortures our heroes went through while Nehru-Gandhi spent their days in 5 star prisons reading/writing books and sipping tea.
In the end, the Amar Jyoti, which reminds us of the unimaginable sacrifices made by the freedom fighters. The fire lit by those great souls still burns in the heart of every patriotic Indian, come rain or high water.
