My youngest son (19) is leaving one red state (WV) to work in another (TX) tmw. He’s spent 24 hours arguing with someone on George Floyd‘s behalf. When I asked him why he would spend so much time w/someone who wouldn’t listen to him, he said “because they have to HEAR it”.

The only reason I mentioned the red states is because he’s so young, and just finding his voice and starting to speak out. As a mom that makes me really proud, but also worry a little, too.
For anyone who thinks I’m insulting TX, I’m not. I lived in Fort Worth & loved it, even though I was there during the the Trump campaign. I’ve also lived in KY & I’m currently in WV. I know what it’s like speaking out in a red state. He’s young & I worry.

This thread I wrote is the epitome of white privilege. Because if my son was a PoC, we’d be talking about a whole other level of fear.
