Spencer tweeted earlier "when you're given an unreasonable situation there is absolutely no duty to be reasonable in response" and it reminded me that one of my favorite things about myths and certain tales, is that people often went mad as a justifiable response to their world
That and transforming into creatures or trees as an embodiment of their pain. With the way that certain people in this world are designated to suffer and then chided for not being thankful to even be allowed to suffer, there should be so many mad people and creatures around.
But sometimes I also think of all the things black people have to do to try to save their own lives in situations where the danger is their own existence, and how all of those precautions are still never enough, and it's a certain paranoia and madness that is required to live.
It is such an absurd thing to see a man be killed by a police officer and know that the situation isn't isolated and is the consequence of a world that's designed for those things to be normal, as well as all the other unseen effects to lead to a lesser quality of life.
And then to be told that not only do you have to be civil about challenging that world, but you can only challenge it in the ways that are deemed acveptable. And at worst that you're complaining too much, that what you experience isn't real, or that you suffer as a moral failing.
