Today's modern policing comes from Slave Patrols, Night Watches, Indian Constables...these MFs later became modern police departments, were both designed to control us.
St. Louis police were founded to protect residents from Natives & many southern police departments began as slave patrols.

1704, the colony of Carolina developed the nation's first slave patrol. This shit is from the National Law Enforcement Museum. https://lawenforcementmuseum.org/2019/07/10/slave-patrols-an-early-form-of-american-policing/
POLICING SLAVES. HISTORY ON POLICING.

According to historian Gary Potter, slave patrols served three main functions.

“(1) to chase down, apprehend, and return to their owners, runaway slaves; (2) to provide a form of organized terror to deter slave revolts;
and, (3) to maintain a form of discipline for slave-workers who were subject to summary justice, outside the law.”[i]

Congress passed fugitive Slave Laws allowing the detention and return of escaped slaves, in 1793 and 1850...laws made in the progressive North...NY.
"The similarities between the slave patrols and modern American policing are too salient to dismiss or ignore. Hence, the slave patrol should be considered a forerunner of modern American law enforcement." (Turner, Giacopassi and Vandiver, 2006:186)
In 1871 Congress passed the Ku Klux Klan Act, which prohibited state actors from violating the Civil Rights of all citizens in part because of law enforcements’ involvement with the infamous group. Not just in the South, but across the Nation.
“The history of police work in the South grows out of this early fascination, by white patrollers, with what African American slaves were doing. Most law enforcement was, by definition, white patrolmen watching, catching, or beating black slaves.”[ii] https://lawenforcementmuseum.org/2019/07/10/slave-patrols-an-early-form-of-american-policing/
Another source on history of modern day policing (specific to NC, SC, VA). The shit is global, criminalizing minorities is global. Hunting us. Murdering us. This isn't exclusive to one country. Colonization kills (us) always.

Wilson was most noted for setting a standard for "professionalism" in policing, along with his pro-military style (coupled with being racist as all hell), he was also for greater centralization with a focus on crime control.
You gotta keep in mind prior to this police/policing played a key role in the rise and maintenance of organized crime in (some) communities.

The idea was to try and gain more control over the police... centuries too late (1950"s on).
Excuse errors in this thread, and note I left big holes. Point is, policing has always been corrupt and come from a place meant to terrorize and control, it's always been tied to economy and political landscapes. They've always hunted and killed us.
