Comrades in the US - please make sure you know how to treat mace and tear gas injuries, keep first aid kits on you if you’re going to protests. Pepperspray is oil based, it’s greasy and it spreads EVERYWHERE. Baby shampoo will remove it, and it won’t irritate burned skin

Wear raincoats/ ponchos if you can. A cap or hat, swimming goggles, or skii goggles will save you a world of pain if you’re stuck by mace or teargas. Wet cloth masks help dramatically with teargas. If you get mace on you, remove all affected clothing and do NOT touch your face.

Milk is NOT the most efficient way to treat pepper spray. Baby shampoo diluted with water in a squeeze bottle is a life saver. Pepper spray is OIL BASED. It’s greasy as hell and spreads everywhere. Soap molecules bind to both oil and water, making baby shampoo the most efficient

... way to remove oil based contaminants. There are some fantastic decontamination guides I’ll post in this thread. Pepper spray and tear gas will burn your skin as soon as it makes contact, and it gets progressively worse over an hour. Be prepared for any exposed skin to be hurt

I can’t emphasise how god damn useful swimming goggles and a mask are! You can still run with burning arms and legs, but if your face is hit, all of your mucus membranes will become inflamed and your eyes/ nose will non stop water. Protect your face with goggles/ masks/ hats

This is the simplest way to decontaminate a face. Make sure to get hair, too. It’s extremely common for victims to instinctually touch their face and reintroduce irritants. Forehead, eyes, nose, mouth, hair, hands. I use about half a cup for baby shampoo for a Litre of water

The victim WILL have their eyes squeezed shut. Put on clean disposable gloves. Open their eyelids and rinse the eye. They will instinctively blink and pull away because it fucking hurts, but it will dramatically help within 15-30 mins of contact.

If you are a first aider, bring multiple boxes of disposable gloves. Bring garbage bags to collect and dispose of contaminated material. DOUBLE GLOVE! If you get spray on your fingers, you won’t notice for 5-10 mins and you WILL spread it. Paper towels are ideal for wiping faces
