brazilian police is known for their brutal and violent operations. they use the drug war as an excuse for the mass murder of black brazilians. here’s some more information about it: #BlackLivesMatters #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd #JUSTICAPARAJOAOPEDRO

these also have been happening for a long time. the case of Favela Nova Brasilia, in 1994, where police agents executed 13 people + tortured and assaulted 3 young girl, even made to the Interamerican Court on Human Rights. https://cejil.org/en/case-favela-nova-brasilia-cosme-rosa-genoveva-evandro-oliveira-and-more">https://cejil.org/en/case-f...
in 2011, the court recognized inumerous human rights violations, including the fact that the prosecution for this case was mishandled by the brazilian justice system. the court made several recommendations that brazil needed to follow in order to prevent other cases like this +
to happen. this was in 2011. however, nothing was changed, and the number of deaths has been increasing: https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2017/may/04/killings-brazilian-police-human-rights-crisis-un-review">https://www.theguardian.com/global-de...

joão pedro was a 14 year old boy. he was playing with his cousins at his uncle’s house when he was brutally killed by police during an operation. the police then DISAPPEARED WITH THE BODY for several hours, without informing his family. https://www1.folha.uol.com.br/internacional/en/brazil/2020/05/14-year-old-boy-killed-at-home-during-federal-police-operation-in-rio.shtml">https://www1.folha.uol.com.br/internaci...

the penal system in brazil targets black people. brazil has one of the 4th highest incarceration rates, with the majority of individuals being afro-brazilians. however, most of the prisoners have yet to be tried, and may wait for years for a hearing. https://www.wola.org/analysis/brazilian-prison-system-challenges-prospects-reform/">https://www.wola.org/analysis/...
there’s a LOT of violation of human rights in brazilian prisons. it’s common to hear or read about prisioners that have been beaten up by officers, killings inside the prison, suicide cases, etc
this is just a general information. there’s a lot of other cases i could go on about. police is taking the lives of black brazilians EVERYDAY. everyday there’s mothers losing their sons to the police. wives losing their husbands. and yet, the government treat them as numbers.
