Forgive me y'all but I want to talk about something relatively low stakes right now because I'm losing my mind. But my perception of this fandom is that there is no one popular group? https://twitter.com/enfysblessed/status/1265850586676686848
There are a lot of circles and many of them are formed from common interests outside the ship, or interest in the same kind of fic. And I don't even know if the more popular authors in those groups are tight with others, if that makes sense?
The fandom is enormous. There will be people talking about an author or a hugely popular fic and I will be like "Who and what?" because my circle doesn't really overlap that much with theirs.
Outside of Thea/lwaboc I bet that if you randomly sampled people & asked them who a popular writer or fic is you'd get a lot of different answers. Like, yes I do think that we tend to rec the same handful of fics over and over but then I'm like wait what if that's just my circle?
Is there another circle where another 6 fics are constantly being recced and hardly anyone is talking about the ones I see all the time? I don't know but I do know that at least once a week I get comments on TGBN from people who had literally never heard of it before.
So I don't even know if I have an answer or a thesis really it's just something that Trixie's post made me think about
