It's taken about 12 years, but tonight I've done a full 180 on the Degrassi episode "Got My Mind Set On You."
It's borderline a crime that I disrespected it for so long.

Not only does this episode deal with racial profiling, they also cover a white person (Derek) being completely clueless to another white person exhibiting racist undertones in how they speak about and treat a POC.
Honestly my biggest issues with GMMSOY were always the usage of Danny and Derek in an A plot, and feeling like they were pointlessly fighting over a girl.
But it's not pointless. She's there to drive a wedge, leaving Derek even more blind to racism that's plain as day to us.

DANNY: I'm not a thief, okay?!
RACHEL: Then why'd you run like one?
-------
Because POC know that even if they're innocent, and even if they fully cooperate, there's a good chance they'll be treated as guilty anyway.

The scary part is there's people on my timelines (FB in particular) who think racism only exists if it involves the KKK or some angry white person yelling at a POC on camera.
Even scarier, this ep was written by a brillint white man in 2007, and it's still relevant in 2020.
