fantasys, i want to address the current situation around sf9. as a disclaimer, i& #39;d like to point out that i am an asian american fantasy, so in no way am i trying to speak on behalf of anybody but myself.
as fans of any idol, it is important that we love and support them. however, i also believe blindly loving and supporting them is dangerous. to me, loving and stanning an idol also means being able to be critical of them and holding them accountable when they make mistakes.
i watched the video. while i don& #39;t think any of the members said the word in question, it IS there in the original. it is not edited in like some ppl are claiming. could it be a korean word? yes, absolutely. could it be the n-word? yes, absolutely.
do we know for sure which it is? no, we do not. as fantasys, we must be smarter than to simply cancel anyone who feels offended by this clip. the truth is, we don& #39;t know the whole truth. words can be misheard and misconstrued, but that doesn& #39;t lessen the impact.
the black community has faced injustice in america since day one and it CONTINUES to be an issue. #blacklivesmatter https://abs.twimg.com/hashflags... draggable="false" alt=""> is trending for a reason. the n-word holds so much weight and history, so we cannot simply dismiss black kpop fans who are offended as "trolls."
i don& #39;t want to speak too much on behalf of the black kpop community, but i will say that i think that their anger is validated by the fact that there is so much injustice happening to their community every day. their friends and family are being murdered simply for who they are.
this is a reminder that you are allowed to love an idol and still be critical and hold them accountable. why? bc wouldn& #39;t you do the same for a friend? or a family member? we do it BC we love them, and we want them to be BETTER ppl.
i rly hope that it& #39;s none of the members, that what op heard was a misunderstanding, and that we can continue to love and support our boys and one another. i love fantasys bc of how wholesome and kind you all are. let& #39;s not ruin that image. let& #39;s work together to be better.
i also want to add that i don& #39;t think op was trying to cancel sf9 out of hate. i know some of you are mad, you don& #39;t want your faves to be problematic, but let& #39;s face it: we are all problematic in one way or another.
but that doesn& #39;t mean that we are inherently bad ppl. ppl are constantly changing. ppl make mistakes. but how they handle mistakes, how they grow and become better from those mistakes, that& #39;s how we should be gauging others. there is always room for improvement. nobody is perfect
this is rly hard for me, esp bc i am a newer fantasy and i love sf9 w all my heart. i am giving them the benefit of the doubt, but if it is true, if it was a member, i will be sad. i don& #39;t want to automatically side w one side or the other. i& #39;ll continue to wait for more info.
