Why #BlackLivesMatter is so important and why you should talk about it.

I'm going to talk about police brutality and statistics as well as death, so if you are affected/get triggered by such topics please don't read.

To catch you up in case you aren't aware, an African American man named George Floyd was recently murdered in Minneapolis. He was pinned down to the ground by a cop to the point where he could not breathe. He later died in a hospital. The murder of George Floyd was a tragedy.

It was a tragedy and it was unfair, and a clear display of the racism in law enforcement towards minority races, especially towards African American people.

And George Floyd, is one of many.

These are some of the people who were murdered.

Getting killed by the police is one of the leading causes of death in America for African American men. In fact, 1 in 1000 Black men and boys can expect to die at the hands of a police officer(according to an analysis of deaths involving law enforcement officers).

This is 2.5 times as high as compared to White men and boys.

I got these statistics from a 2019 study, it's 2020 now, and more recent statistics show an increase in the violence.

So why not all lives matter right? Well let's look at it this way. You've got 5 children, one of them gets bitten by a snake, you don't bring all of them to the hospital and demand they all get equal care do you? You focus on the one who got bitten by the snake.

You bring the one who got bitten by the snake to the hospital because they need the most care. Similarly we are focusing on Black lives because they need to most care because they are actively being discriminated against.

You don't have to be Black to feel outraged. You don't have to be Black to join the movement.

And being neutral, does nothing. If you do or say nothing, you are contributing to the violence.
