I didn’t want to get myself involved with this kind of controversial topic but I think this is something that needs to be said. Before I make my statement though, I would like to make it clear that I do not support and nor do I condone racism in any way, shape or form.
However, I do not think that someone of a particular race should be silenced when voicing their opinion on a situation/event occurring that is affecting another race because they were not directly affected by said situation.
Instead of having their opinion dismissed simply because they are of a different race, I think their opinion should be given recognition based on its intellectual merit and relevance to a particular situation.
By denying someone their right to have and voice their opinion on a topic, I firmly believe that it immediately closes the grounds for a productive and civil discourse on a topic which if allowed to happen can be beneficial for all parties.
If you help me to understand your perspective on a situation and allow me to explain mine, we will be able to come to some sort of common ground which will result in more peace and understanding and less hate and ignorance.
When someone’s opinion is silenced, it immediately results in a heated debate filled with anecdotal evidence and hate which is unfortunately hindering our growth and development as a society.
In conclusion, I think we as a people should strive to be more understanding of each other and our opinions instead of hostile to persons who hold a different opinion from ours. Goodnight
