Being a brown person in INDIA, you face discrimination because you aren't "fair" enough. People with lighter skin are more likely to get the job, a higher pay and a higher chance to be "chosen" as the bride in arranged marriages.
Brown people are called "kala" (black) in the media, barely portrayed in the entertainment industry, are the biggest market for the fairness cream industries that thrive by saying being dark skinned is ugly.
But nothing is comparable to what has happened recently. A man DESPERATELY begged for mercy but was abused and killed by a white policeman threatened by his skin colour. The police statement only said "medical distress" but made no mention of his being pinned down with the weight
of a police officer compressing his airway. This isn't just an issue of the country that this took place in but a GLOBAL ISSUE OF RACISM AND DISCRIMINATION and it needs to end right now. Because we can't afford sacrifce one more life to prove the same point over and over again.
The policemen losing their jobs will never be equal to the loss of a life. This will not ensure that such power doesn't fall in the wrong hands again. So please RT this tweet with #BlackLivesMatter
#AllLivesMatter so that George Floyd gets the justice he so deserves.
