I am not in Minneapolis right now, but I wanna say something about what I saw today & how it connects to the "looting".
Firstly, Target is insured to hell & back. They will be FINE.
I spoke to the former owner of the liqueur store today AT THE PROTEST & was assured of the same.

More importantly- the police spent a whole buttload of money today erecting barriers around their property- and their property ONLY. I saw not one scrap of evidence that they gave any thought to the neighborhood, it's stores, or it's most vulnerable (mostly homeless) members.
They got theirs. The end.
They did not engage with us. They did not speak to us, just watched us, with their fancy vests and mirrored shades but no masks.
Their sole task was erecting barriers to keep the community out of their police precinct.

The lack of masks, the barriers, the tear gas, rubber bullets, the murder- it's all part & parcel with the attitude that this displays.
The police I saw were not interested in being part of the community they "protect". They are there to enforce from the outside and from above.

Do not expect protests to stop while that's the case.
Because the murders my city is protesting- that our cities are protesting, will not stop as long as the people in power view those they are supposed to protect as the enemy, as subhuman, as separate from themselves.

I am distraught at how many authority figures have come out in condemnation of the MP in the last two days- yet nobody seems to be able to STOP them.
Who are the police answerable to? How wild can they run without any repercussions?

I am a LOT more worried about that than whether somebody stole some masks from a fully insured Target, or even some vodka from a liqueur store, when there's tear gas in the air and no elected or official leadership on the ground.
