I've always been fond of how monogatari subverts your expectations of the cliches and tropes used for the characters in this medium by having them place under a character archeotype but giving them far more depth and meaning than you ever thought they'd had. My favorite case of-
This being Hitagi and how at first she comes of as your average tsundere love interest with nothing special going for her and then giving more depth as to why acts the way she does and how she ended up like this. Hitagi has very little screentime and everytime she's on screen she
-is different from the last time we saw her this is further solidified by the characters acting that way to her sometimes even stating it flat out. So much so that by the end of the series as a character she's changed very much but still feel like the person you've always known
