I wonder how many people hating cops on twitter have actual contact with the lower & lower-middle classes of America—aka, the section of America that contains both the people most likely to commit crimes, & also those people most likely to work in the criminal justice system?
I’m being more public than I should, but kid’s boyfriend’s dad works at a prison. One of his brothers also (embarassingly) spent a short time in jail.
Unrelated to dad or brother, he experienced shit growing up that you would not believe. Abuse, neglect... crime everywhere.

His actual, real life involved people on the edge of criminality. He has a cousin who was killed in gang violence.
He knows firsthand how people get involved with crime, and the results.

Living in a crime riddled neighborhood whether people who are in jail could just as easily be let out—with no danger to anyone.

Actual crime is scary. It’s frightening to have your house broken into. It’s scary to be victimized by crime.
