"Saying acab is an unfair generalization" Two things about this from somebody who used to think the same. Think about it like this, stuff like what's going on currently? Done by the police and not given the proper punishment for their crimes. If somebody joins the police-
When the corruption of it is spread through the news and made clear as day, they're willingly joining and participating in this corrupt system. If they willingly speak out against the system and fight to make sure that the corrupt law enforcement are punished through calling-
Them out? THEN there's a good cop....for as long as theh last as they'll likely be fired for doing so. Thereby they wouldn't be a cop anymore.
"Cops can be nice people-"
That's missing the point, despite the naming, people know that cops can be good people individually-
Like outside of the job,but by being a cop you inherently contribute to a corrupt system
"So you want anarchy then?"
Once again no, ACAB calls for a total police reform, down with the current system that's meant to reinforce status quo and target minorities-
In with a new one that actually does what the police are meant to do.
"But my family member is-"
Ok but do they speak out against the corruption or do they just sit obediently like a dog and not say a word? If the latter then it means that they're complacent with this corrupt-
System.
"Where's your proof of corruption?" Well outside of blm protest having tear gas sprung on them while white idiots protesting masks get protection there's this, https://mobile.twitter.com/Blavity/status/1216049718163316736
In which a cop who fed a homeless person a sandwhich with literal sh## in it won the appeal. This is the corruption that goes ignored because schools and the like decide to praise and make cops heroes in the eyes of people. Cops aren't a race or something you're born into-
Becoming a cop is a choice somebody makes, one singular "good cop" you know does not take away from the current oppression minorities face from the police on a daily basis. I've seen so many people on this platform insult and berate anybody who says this but... here's the thing.
Imagine you have to see somebody you love being beaten up, arrested and scarred for life for something as harmless as say...speeding... you'd love to believe this was a once and a lifetime thing....but no, it's common.. and whenever somebody is punished for it-
It's not near the level it should be, and then imagine that group who does things like this often get glorified by the media. Are those who say it angry? Yes, and the majority who are saying so are minorites. In particular to anyone white and cis reading this? Have you ever just-
Seen a cop and just been worried being in their prrsence? Have you ever worried about how you could end up dead or in a hospital from them being there or you just being yourself? If not then that's your privilege. Acab is more than a simple "but this cop", it's far more nuanced-
Legit, i do understand, the first time i heard the phrase my thoughts were similar to the quotes I used prior, i get it, generalizations suck, this... this however is an exception as I've explained here. Also just one more note to close this thread on but-
If generalizations are bad... why is it not bad when white cops generalize any black person they deem as suspicious as needing to be shot or hurt. As a black trans girl yeah, f### cops and i won't not say it until we get a system that puts minorities last and the-
Status quo first.
