I can tell you I've never felt responsible for the political education of celebs. I find it weird when people thought that was some side hustle of mine. Nah. Not your girl. I don't think that work is important actually. I also think ppl w resources are responsible for seeking PE

My ongoing political education is a decades long project. I was lucky to have mentors like Ahmed Obafemi & Chokwe Lumumba & Assata Shakur, but me and my circle had to study, debate, make mistakes, learn how to launch campaigns etc. It's what I spent the 90s doing.

I think celebs can amplify when they're not writing checks, but that amplification should be rooted in actual messaging. I became political in the 80s. I'm sure it was because I watched Stevie Wonder talking abt apartheid on Soul Train. Or somewhere like that...

But what we can be sure of is that Stevie had that issue broken down to him by someone like Harry Belafonte. Belafonte got his messaging and strategy from ANC women like Winnie Mandela, who traveled the world organizing an economic boycott.
