A thread of black people who were killed or injured by the French police. #BlackLivesMatter
This thread is about black people and black people only since I’m using the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter , but just so you know, North Africans are also being killed, abused and injured. :/
1. The Adama Traoré case.
Adama was a French black man whose family came from Mali. In July 2016 he died in custody in the city of Beaumont sur Oise, not too far from Paris. When he died the police first said it was from a heart attack, however, Adama was perfectly healthy.
A fireman who witnessed the scenes said that he saw Adama face down on his belly handcuffed behind his back, cops on his body. The autopsy report revealed that he died by asphyxiation.
His sister Assa Traoré have been fighting since then for justice and for the truth. She is in France the face of the fight against police brutality and racism.
The police, the media and the French government have been bullied the Traoré family since 2016 because Assa won’t shut up. They try to find dirt about her siblings and put them in prison, she has been convoked by the police just for a few ig posts where she calls out the system.
You can follow Assa and her fight against police brutality in France on Instagram where she gives update about the case and denounces racism and anti blackness in France. Unfortunately, most of the posts are in French.
2. The Théo Luhaka’s case.
TW RAPE.
In February 2017, Theo a 22 years old black man was on his way to meet his sister’s friend and saw some friends. He was chatting with them when a group of cops told them to put their hands against the nearest wall and started to palpate them. One of the guys asked them why.
One cop apparently answered by slapping him. Théo tried to step up but was beating up and one cop introduced his telescopic stick (idk if the translation is correct) in his anus.
As a result Théo sufferer of a 10 can wound in the anal canal, a cut of his sphincter muscle. Théo also said the cops called him a “bamboula” which is a racial slur in France about black people. He also said that the cops took humiliating pics of him on Snapchat.
In 2017, Luc Poignant a spokesman for a French police syndicate was invitante on tv to discuss the case and said that calling a black person “bamboula” was acceptable. Here’s the video in French.
3. The Villeneuve-la-Garenne case
TW the video I’m about to post can trigger you, it is graphic, there is blood and you can hear the victim’s screams.
In April 2020 a video was spread on French Twitter and caused anger. The video showed a black man on the floor, his leg was bleeding a lot and cops were trying to stop the bleeding.
In the several videos posted online you can hear people accusing the cops. Most of them are saying that cops opened their car door while the young man was driving his scooter and the door directly hit his leg. Witnessed affirmer they did it on purpose.
A witness said that the young black man was driving and a police car in civil (idk if that makes sense but you know it was written or indicated that it was a police car) was parked. He drove next to them and the cops opened the door to stop him knowing damn well he didn’t have-
-an helmet on and that he was driving fast. The young man was apparently throw away to the nearest pole. Witnesses also said the cop who opened the door was drunk and they could smell alcohol.
Apparently the police wanted to stopped him because he was out without an attestation (you know the ones you need to have if you want to go out during this pandemic). However the punishment for missing your attestation should be fees not almost loosing your fvcking leg.
The video caused anger online. “D*ath to the pigs” was trending in French twitter.
I have no article in English about this case I’m sorry. It is very recent so international media did not report it. :/
4. Makomé M’Bowolé’s case
April 1993. Makomé, 17 is murdered by a bullet shot at point blank range in the eye by a French cop during his custody in Paris after a stole some cigarettes.
Pascal Compain, the cop who did that only got 8 years of prison and was release only one year after the trial.
Compain declared that he shot “by accident”. He said he wanted to intimidate the young black man to obtain a confession.
5. The infamous Zyed and Bouna case.
Now this case is a little different because here cops indirectly cause the death of a 15 years old black boy, Bouna Traoré and his 17 years old North African friend, Zyed Benna.
Zyed and Bouna died electrocuted after they hid in an electric post (I guess it’s the translocation idk) in Clichy Sous Bois to avoid french cops.
Both Z and B were accused of stealing but you got to understand is that they were running away and hiding from cops because as my last tweets showed you, French police kills and hurts Black and poc young men. And in 2005 there was no camera to record it. Young men were afraid-
- and knew what could happen if cops arrest them.
However, a recording of the cops’ radio transmission demonstrated that the cops knew the kids would die if they decide to hid in the electric post. They didn’t to stop them actually in the recording you can hear them say “They will eventually leave at some point. But at the same-
-time if they go in I don’t think they will survive”. Indeed Zyed and Bouna died after their revived an electric shock of 20 000 volts.
Two cops were fired for failure to assist a person in danger (idk if it’s only a law in France)
The resulted of it’s event was the one month riots of 2005. The riots were mainly in the neighbourhoods and cities were a majority of people of color live. The government even claimed the state of emergency. Young black and north africans people were angry as they should be.
6. Gaye Camara’s case
January 2018. A team of cops (BAC) is hiding and watch from far a Mercedes suspected of being stolen. At some point a Volkswagen stops near the Mercedes. The car is occupied by three people, one of them get out to open the Mercedes when the cops appear suddenly to arrest them.
The Volkswagen then restart and the 3 cops start shooting all at the same time. One bullet hit on the head the drive Gaye, a 26 years old black man.
Last one because I need to pee, I want to finish my movie and I drunk too much redbull I wanna throw up.
7. Ibrahima Bach’s case
October 2019 in Villers le Bel, Ibrahima a young black man is driving is scooter was hit by a cops’ car. He died instantly. The cop claimed that Ibrahima hit a pole near his car instead. However whiteness, Ibrahima’s family and their lawyer claimed the cop hit him on purpose,
A camera recorded everything but the police refused to show the footage to Ibrahima’s family.
The autopsy shows that his injuries fit more with the car theory more than the pole theory.
This is the end of the thread but I want to say that there are so many cases of black people being injured, abused and even killed by the police in France. These are just the most famous cases. And I only put black people here but as I said North Africans are often victims of-
-violence as well. For example in October 1961, in Paris, French police drown in the Seine hundred of Algerians. It was a massacre.
Also most of these crimes happened in urban/poc neighborhoods. In France we call them “Les cités” or “Les quartiers”. Most of habitants of these places are black, North Africans, people of color and poor white people. The police is always there provoking the youth.
During this quarantine it was worst.I in the rich Parisian neighbourhoods people were not respecting the quarantine and were going out as if it was nothing and you couldn’t see one cop in sight. On the other side, in the “urban” areas you could find cops at every corner abusing-
-black people and poc for every reason not matter if they had their attestation or not. We have seen videos of them pressing on the floor African aunties and stuff like that it’s really disgusting.
Police brutality and racism is everywhere. I can’t stand the way french media and French people love to pretend to be woke and progressist by comparing themselves to Americans as if black people weren’t dying here too.
Like French people LOVE to brag about the fact that James Baldwin and other African Americans came to France to run away from segregation and racism in America, as if at the same period there wasn’t a whole human zoo in Paris. Actually several human zoos I think.
Anyway this is the end of the thread stan French black icon Aya Nakamura. 🤍
In the rest of the Europe too
UK https://twitter.com/torrezdesrae/status/1265606371661283333
Man I made so many spelling and grammar mistakes😭😭😭 and I have no excuse, I literally study in the UK. To be fair, I made this thread between 2 am and 4 am, and I was watching something at the same time. 💀💀 But still, I’m really cringing right now. I hope you can understand.
Look at how some French white people dismiss the police brutality and the racist killing happening in France. 💀
French white people are speeading lies about Black Americans now. 🥴
More recently Camélia Jordana a woc singer and actress said she doesn’t feel safe around cops in France and it created a big backlash. Politicians, cops, media and internet users took it personally and started to harass her. Also this new bill is happening:
