if you’re white and thinking of tweeting about alm as a response to black lives matter, i hope you understand that you will never experience the fear and anger of knowing that you are seen as a threat because of your skin colour. you will never experience violence at the - (1)
hands of the police, who are a people supposed to protect your rights but instead blindly follow the flawed laws of their country with pride, without question. you will never experience being a minor and seeing your life flash before your eyes as a police officer threatens (2)
your life while you know that the sole explanation is the colour of your skin. you will never experience your chest tightening as you hear sirens, as you see murderers dressed in uniform - their license to kill you on display, your only crime their perception of you. (3)
you will never experience knowing masses of loved ones whose lives have been taken by an institution that aims to control your communities. you will never experience the helplessness and distress that comes with realising the power that the police hold. (4)
you will never experience these things. you will never experience what we experience. (5)
yet the fact that you dare open your mouth in an attempt to nullify our experiences disgusts me. the fact that you actively seek to negate the reality we face speaks volumes about you as a person. your statement and your sentiments are invalid. educate yourself or keep quiet. (6)
