Much of Nepal issue is the result of the high-handedness of our babus from MEA posted into Nepal. What these guys tend to forget is the basic fact that Nepal is a sovereign nation & a posting at Indian embassy, in no way, elevates them above their serving leadership 1/n
PM Modi is extremely popular in Nepal and his popularity soared after his Nepal visit and also courtesy help extended in the aftermath of earthquake; however instead of leveraging that, if we ended up where we are today; fingers will point at nowhere else but Indian Embassy
Our IFS babus need to understand that their job is to conduct embassy matters; India has agencies and they have a mandate from the top, they report to the top....Embassy's job is to only assist and not replace those agencies...overzealousness of babus is undoing Modi's hardwork
It will be prudent to send some polished and suave political appointee to Nepal as Indian Ambassador- perhaps someone with royal lineage and connections with Nepalese royal family...….he/she will end up doing work much better than these white elephants of MEA!
Popularity of PM Modi amongst Nepalese surpasses that of every other previous Indian PM. His speech to 2nd Constituent Assembly of Nepal was received well in Nepal.....even our Ambassador to Nepal has good reputation.... but it is officers at lower level- who r real pain...
We cant afford hostile Nepal........our best n brightest need to be sent there to execute PM's Nepal vision- "Humaare sambandh kaagaz ki kashtiyon se aage nahin badhe hain. Humaare sambandh dilon ki daastaan kehte hain.”- MEA wont remember but I do- "Yuddh se Buddh ki ore” theme
Did anyone hear any of the MEA guy in Nepal repeat HIT formula that PM @narendramodi give for Nepal- his words "India wants to help Nepal build highways (H), information highways (I) and transways - transmission lines (T)" needs execution & MEA has to work towards that!
PM @narendramodi said "it is more expensive to make a telephone call b/w India & Nepal, than it is to make a call between India and USA" & later-4 years later Nepal Telecom doubled termination rates & call rates went up to 12 per min fm 6 earlier...shouldn't MEA be covering this?
PM @narendramodi in his speech of Aug 3, 2014 also offered assistance to Nepal in the fields of organic farming, and soil health- wonder what did MEA do to facilitate this in past 6 years? Shouldn't MEA & its operatives (I m using this word deliberately) be executing PMs vision?
Let me end this thread with a request to PM @narendramodi ji to pl remind our MEA babus working in/on Nepal to read this Summary of his Aug 3, 14 speech to Constituent Assembly of Nepal https://www.mea.gov.in/Speeches-Statements.htm?dtl/23817/Summary+of+Prime+Min & work accordingly-

PM & @DrSJaishankar can handle other real stuff.
