one of the worst parts of all this is how quickly and without cause a cop can escalate a situation into violence. as an onlooker, how do you know when to intervene? you can’t tell from any distance if it’s a legitimate apprehension until the abuse has begun.
the police administrations have the power to monitor patterns in their officers, only they can prevent the abuse. but they don’t. and once the officer leaves the station there are no papers that are going to stop their bullets. as a bystander, what is there to do?
do we involve ourselves in every physical altercation involving an officer? that’s a great way to get yourself killed. so what, then? we film. and the abuse is recorded. and those responsible for acting on that record do not. nothing changes.
