. @drewmorgcomedy’s recent car-roasting made me a little nostalgic for my first car.
It was a 1978 Chevy Nova Custom (the “custom” bit meaning it had power windows and locks, A/C, etc.) It had a V8 engine in it that probably had more towing power than my current little SUV does.
It was stupid fast and I’m lucky I didn’t kill myself in it. But I have absolutely nothing but happy memories of this car. It saw me finish high school and start college. Took me to school dances, babysitting gigs, and my first real job.
It also once took me down the highway at around 110ish MPH.

When we bought it in 2003 it had 42,000 original miles on it. The seats had been kept covered in towels so the leather wouldn’t fade.

You could (and we did) easily fit 8+ people in it comfortably on the bench seats.
I was the only one with a car for the longest so my friends would chip in gas money when they could. My dad surprised me with tinted windows once and a CD player (mounted under the dash so nothing original was disturbed) on different occasions. It was a jukebox with a 350 in it.
My first dog, a golden retriever named Duke, would stretch out on the bench seat and put his head in my lap when I drove.

A friend of mine once danced on the roof in the Blockbuster parking lot.
It’s amazing the things that show up in the background of our highlight reel of memories. Cars. Houses. Your favorite tree. Like themes that repeat in the background.

What’s something, big or small, serious or not, that decorates the scenery of your memory? I’m curious to know.
