I want to thank folks who have reached out via text and messenger to see how I’m doing in the wake of the murder of #GeorgeFloyd by law enforcement in #Minneapolis. #ICantBreathe 1/12
For those not part of those private conversations, I haven’t posted publicly on the topic because I don’t know what else to say —to you, to myself or to my nation. 2/12
I don’t need to post. You don’t need to see my rage. It’s simple. 3/12
You are either a person who knows Black and indigenous people are being physically and psychologically murdered in the United States through violence and systemic racism or you are a person who chooses for whatever reason to spend most of your day ignoring it. 4/12
You are either a person who chooses to do something about it or you are a person who chooses to do nothing. 5/12
In short. When it comes to the plight of Black and indigenous peoples in the United States, you choose to be fully human or you choose not to be. 6/12
This is not about left or right; liberal or conservative; pro-law enforcement or anti-law enforcement; or whatever else overplayed ‘fill in the blank’ fake dualism is in vogue this week. 7/12
This is actually all about you, about your own humanity, and the story we will one day tell your children and your children’s children about you. 8/12
Today I stand here and wonder what it will be like for you, on those days when your children and grandchildren look you in eye and ask, “how was this ever allowed to happen?” and “What did you try and do about it?” 9/12
On those days (and yes, those days will come), what story will you have to tell about yourself? 10/12
I haven’t posted publicly about another lynching in America because it’s not my story to tell. It’s not a story of Black and indigenous America, it’s actually your story and how it is told is all about you. 11/12
So instead of posting my rage, I choose to stand here in judgment over you, because today, like thousands of Black folks, #GeorgeFloyd no longer can. 12/12
