I would love to know (as a fact finding mission), what did you personally learn about unions in high school and in your early working days? I can’t help but think this is quite common
For the record, in year 9 and 10 history we had compulsory Australian history classes and didn’t learn jack shit about unions. Any victories won by them were talked about in completely separate terms and whenever they came up they were universally portrayed as hostile or thugs.
I went to a decent school where nominally you’d say I got a very comprehensive education but it is always interesting to think about glaring potholes in retrospect. I didn’t develop any understanding or positive appreciation of unions until WELL into my late 20s.
The only union action I clearly remember seeing in the news as a kid was the waterfront disputes. My first union was the SDA and, well...... lol
