How is it that Tou Thao was allowed to punch and kick a handcuffed suspect 'until his teeth broke', which led to a law suit that was settled for $25,000 out of court, and still allowed to be a police officer? đŸ€”
Derek Chauvin has been investigated for three incidents where a suspect has been shot (one of which where police said it happened in response to the suspect reaching for an officer's gun đŸ€”). Could we have seen it coming that maybe one day he'd murder someone?
George Floyd is dead for no reason. His family have to grieve someone they love while videos of him being murdered are circulated online. The witnesses have to live with the trauma of knowing they watched someone get killed while they were rightly afraid to physically intervene.
If police officers behave like this when they know they're being filmed, what is happening when they think nobody is there to see? What do they say to justify their actions that lead to people's deaths when they are the only witnesses?
A few weeks ago, Desmond Ziggy Mombeyarara, who works for the NHS, was repeated tased at a petrol station at night time when officers could presume the only witness was his very young son. He was face down on the floor, not moving, and they continued to use the taser.
The IOPC are currently investigating the incident after Andy Burnham asked for the footage from a mobile phone/police body cam footage to be reviewed, given the apparent excessive force. America have their problems, but that doesn't mean we don't have our own issues here.
Out of interest, Mombeyarara's partner, and the mother of his 5-year-old child, died in 2016 after the NW ambulance service failed to "provide the most basic care" according to the coroner. She suffered a fatal reaction to painkillers but was accused of “faking it” by paramedics.
