I don’t know much but i do know a bit about music and this feels really relevant rn so we’re going to talk about how you cannot separate the artist from their art in a different way than i think we’re used to discussing it.
I wasn’t going make this thread but i think i will due to the continued presence of ignorant and bigoted people in their fan base (despite the consistent and blatant message against white supremacy and ethnocentrism). So let me address some of you rage against the machine fans.
For the “fans” that feel they can enjoy the music without actually backing ratm’s message: please keep in mind that the music you enjoy is at its core activism. They were not being covert or unclear when they said “some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses”
and frankly, the fact that a line about the condition of police brutality from the 90’s is still so relevant in 2020 should upset you. This is no made up narrative, it is a very real and continued story of oppression
