systematic racism =/= prejudice. the difference between racism and prejudice in America is that black people and other POC do not benefit from being prejudiced against white people, but white people benefit from systematic racism even if they’re not actively being racist.
being white is a privilege in the society we live in BECAUSE of systematic racism, hence the justified prejudice many POC may have against white people. that’s why the fight is against systematic racism, not white people as a whole. to fight for equality you have to fight the -
system, and in this scenario the system is our primarily white, conservative government. yes, black people and other POC can be prejudiced against white people, but it remains true that in this country black people and other POC are oppressed, therefore they cannot benefit from-
the systematic racism this country runs on. black people and other POC are not responsible for their oppression, white people are. it should not be their responsibility to play nice and hope we decide to value their lives a little bit more. it’s very ignorant to say that-
black people and other POC are to blame for their own oppression. it’s the responsibility of the privileged to fight for equality in a society that does not value the opinion of the oppressed. end of thread.
