Thread πŸ”— ✨|

With the Primeira Liga poised to return on the 3rd of June, here’s a thread with some statistics from this season to give you the lowdown so far:
Current Liga leaders: FC Porto (60)

As you can see from the graphic (c/o @TMuk_news) Porto spent the majority of the season in 2nd place, trailing SL Benfica, that was until game week 23.

Porto now lead by just 1 point. Benfica sit on 59 points.
Possession is πŸ”‘ |

Porto, who top the Liga, are also the team with the most possession (59.7%)

In fact, the top 4 Liga teams are also the top 4 for average possession p/90 (albeit in a different order)

Porto - 59.7%
Braga - 58.9%
Sporting CP - 58.5%
SL Benfica 58.2%
𝔾𝕠𝕒𝕝𝕀 𝔾𝕠𝕒𝕝𝕀 𝔾𝕠𝕒𝕝𝕀

SL Benfica top the ⚽️ chart, averaging 2.04 p/90 and have a total of 49.

Porto are 2nd with 47 and then there is a significant drop in those teams below:

Braga - 40 ⚽️
Vitória - 40 ⚽️
Famalicão - 37 ⚽️

Sporting have scored just 35 goals.

Benfica have conceded just 14 goals all season, Porto are 2nd with 16 conceded.

Rio Ave are 3rd with just 23 goals conceded all season, showing that @carloscarvalha2 has established a solid defence and it is a key factor in their success.
𝔸𝕋𝕋𝔸ℂ𝕂!

The most attacking team per 90? That goes to SC Braga.

They are well in the lead for most shots on target this season with 142 despite only having ONE penalty. They also lead for overall shots (384)

Shots on target: 🎯
Porto - 128
Benfica - 124
FamalicΓ£o - 123

The Primeira Liga has long been a hotbed for young talent.

The youngest player to feature this season is @fcpf Matchoi DjalΓ³ who was 16 years of age! (Born 2003)

Second is @FCPorto FΓ‘bio Silva at 17 and Nilton Varela takes third at 18.

Nationalities in Liga NOS:
(⏱ = Minutes Played)

Top 4:

1. Portugal - 220 players (165,396⏱)
2. Brazil - 156 players (127,983 ⏱)
3. Argentina - 13 players (11,451 ⏱)
4. Spain - 12 players (11,882 ⏱)
And that’s that for now. Things I realised making that thread:

1. Far more enjoyable than I thought
2. @fbref are the 🐐 for statistics
3. Creating a thread at midnight is stupid seeing as it won’t get the attention it probably deserves.

Will RT it tomorrow (at a normal time!)
𝕃𝕖π•₯𝕙𝕒𝕝 π•—π•£π• π•ž πŸ™πŸš 𝕐𝕒𝕣𝕕𝕀:

Rio Ave top the table for both penalty attempts and penalty goals. They have won 9 penalties and scored 7 of them.

Porto and Benfica are tied at 2nd with 8 penalties each, Porto are slightly more accurate with 5 goals, Benfica have 4.

The most clinical penalty taking team (over 5 penalties) is Sporting CP.

Sporting have scored 100% of their 6 penalties.

Sporting’s penalty scorers:

Bruno Fernandes x 4
Jovane Cabral
Luciano Vietto

The side with the most crosses is VitΓ³ria SC with 672

Not surprising given they setup usually in a 433 with both the LCM and RCM going wide and swinging in crosses as well as their pacy wide forwards who do well 1v1 and supply crosses.

The team with the best discipline in terms of cards is Tondela.

Just 51 🟑 cards and 2 πŸ”΄ all season.

At the bottom of the table is Paços with 78 yellows and 5 red cards in 24 games!
𝔾𝕠𝕒𝕝 π•’π•Ÿπ•• π”Έπ•€π•€π•šπ•€π•₯ π•‚π•šπ•Ÿπ•˜π•€ |

The top goalscorer is Carlos VinΓcius of SL Benfica (16), Pizzi is second (14).

Pizzi also leads the assist chart (8)

Others on double figures for goals:

FΓ‘bio Abreu (10)
Sandro Lima (10)
And that is that!

Another thing I’ve realised mid-thread...this all could’ve went into a longer article with more depth and top 5’s in more categories.

Maybe it still will, let us know! ✨🀝
