The AfDB crisis calls again for reflection on Africa’s mgt. of its own affairs. That the USA & 6 of its foreign allies own 40% of AfDB is a pointer to Africa’s inability to develop itself. Now one of its finest sons is being ridiculed to advance US’s political gains. It’s tragic.
Specifically, USA & six allies own 28%, while other non African “developed” states own another 12%. Making the total stake owned by other countries in an African Development bank 40%. If this isn’t shameful, I don’t know what is. Will Africa ever evolve from the colony mode?
And it gets worse, among the 20 largest voting powers, 9 are non African. USA, UK, Japan, Canada, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden have bigger voting powers than over 40 other African countries on issues of African Development. Something is terribly wrong with Africa.
Yes it can be argued that the West also donate to the Asian development bank & even have a higher voting power there than in AfDB, but hey, Asian countries are super powers in their own right and have advanced economies that compete with Europe & the USA. So our dynamics differ.
While USA & Western donors may not be able to shove anything in the faces of Asians, you can’t say same for Africa. Our relationship with the world is beggarly. We impoverish ourselves with our own hands. This just has to stop. I pray @akin_adesina survives this unscathed.
The extracts of this book by President Shehu Shagari, under whose leadership AfDB was found, explains in great detail my position on this and how the problem started from very early in AfDB’s history, fueled by African leaders who won’t pay their dues.

This thread by @timithelaw summarises the allegations against @akin_adesina and his responses to the allegations, as I see many don’t even know what the allegations are:
