Are contributors to Gatsby who aren't employees being compensated? Why is anyone contributing for free? Would love to see some of that 46 million in funding funneled to their open source dependencies who are critical to their operation.

I would expect a company founded on an open source project to have empathy for other open source projects. I feel like it makes it more egregious.

So I got some clarification:

1. Gatsby donates $100k via OpenCollective ( https://opencollective.com/gatsbyjs ), less money than the annual salary of a single Gatsby Inc engineer. (See https://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/Gatsby-CA-Salaries-E2965347.htm to verify!).

Current lifetime contributions stand at $52k starting in November 2018. So that's ~$3,000 a month. They have donated $6,000 each to Babel and Webpack. Less than 2 weeks of income for their leader maintainers. $19,000 of that has gone to unifiedjs which is ~4 months of funding.
