One cannot claim the title of Peacemaker and not attempt to settle disputes when they arise. I write this if only to assuage my own ill ease upon witnessing the current talks. Feel free to read on; I hope this helps some? Of course I welcome healthy discourse on any point I make.
1. I want to start this thread with a quote from JKR, which is ironically apropos. It is a huge heartbreak to discover the author of one of your personal favorite tale this Age is in fact an exclusionist of any sort.
However, authors are products of their imperfect societies and are thus imperfect, as are their authored text. Literary criticism, at least the enlightened kind, ought to allow for clear analysis of both author and text.
And yet, I believe it is acceptable to enjoy, and indeed consider oneself a fan of, texts authored by authors with whose views you do not 100% agree.
I don't know much of art history, only enough to know that Picasso ought not to be one's role model in relationships. But, I feel like I could look at an artwork of his, and still see beauty in it.
Likewise, I wish for instance there were more unambiguous LGBTQA+ representations in RJ's works, and I find the male/female dichotomy of his intrinsic worldbuilding perhaps wanting for less rigidity. But I recognize what he has done in these books, and remain an unabashed fan.
SO, long story short, I SHALL quote from Harry Potter because I remain a fan of the series, though perhaps not of JKR herself.
