A lot of fellow POC feel like we can understand Black experiences just bc we also face discrimination. It’s important to realize that POC struggle is valid at the same time that it’s DIFFERENT from & often LESS SALIENT than what Black Americans endure by existing https://twitter.com/_lovejak/status/1265456656864944128
A lot of us don’t know what it’s like to fear for our lives bc of our race. POC have PRIVILEGE in spaces Black people don’t. Use it! Speak up! Educate people around you! Do more than just ask how to help. We need to educate ourselves and learn what true, productive allyship is
Even choosing to not be affected by/think about #GeorgeFloyd #BreonnaTaylor #AhmaudArbery just to name a FEW from the past few weeks is an example of our privilege. Please please please research, donate, VOTE, keep people accountable!
And if you have Black friends, it is NOT their responsibility to educate you or help you figure out what to do. I’m not saying they can’t or won’t want to talk to you about this, but have the agency to inform yourself without placing the burden on them.
