For those wondering why @twitter finally took a stand on Trump's lies about elections instead of his conspiracy theories about @JoeNBC.

A short reminder
1) in 2016, Russia used our social media companies to spread misinformation about our elections

2) post election, there was a public outcry that Twitter/FB/etc didn't do more to prevent misinformation on their platforms

3) in 2017 & 2018, @Jack & Sheryl Sandberg were grilled in front of Congress on preventing election related misinformation on their platform

4) Jan 2020, Twitter updated rules prohibiting content that may mislead voters or suppress turnout. They also introduce the ability to report tweets misleading election information

5) Trump starts to tweet misleading content that is in direct violation of their rules. The same rules they enacted after being grilled by Congress for not having in 2016

While his behavior towards @JoeNBC & more so the family of the deceased is beyond disgusting, it doesn't violate a current rule.

If they remained silent to Trump's election misinformation, it would break their promise to customers & Congress to prevent what Trump was doing.

And if silent to Trump providing misleading information about elections... how can they prevent it as we get closer to Nov 3?
