California has lost 4 in 10 jobs in child care services.
Specifically, in April & #39;19 there were 78,200 jobs in child care services in CA, and in April & #39;20 there were 47,100 jobs in. That& #39;s a 40% drop and some of these jobs are not coming back.

Some of the teachers that filled these jobs will work elsewhere. My son& #39;s PreK teacher has a 4-yr degree and worked at a NAEYC-accredited center. He had a side gig taking people& #39;s garbage out to the curb in order to pay his bills. Now, he makes more money doing it full-time.
This is just one reason why CA can& #39;t afford to cut subsidized child care payment rates as proposed in the May Revision. The field has been destroyed by the COVID-19 health and economic crisis, and we can& #39;t go back to work if we don& #39;t have a place for our kids to learn and grow.
