Prior to an election, the Presidential Transition Act requires executive branch agencies to prepare to promote the orderly transfer of power in the event that a President’s term expires.
As required by the Act, OGE participates in the federal transition council based on its executive branchwide role in the Presidential appointments process.
OGE is responsible for reviewing the financial disclosure reports of the highest-level prospective Presidential nominees and resolving their potential conflicts of interest so they can serve with integrity.
OGE’s role in the Presidential appointment process is vital when many top leadership positions turn over as a result of the election, irrespective of outcome.
Leading up to each Presidential election, OGE leads the ethics program to prepare by updating key resources for public financial disclosure filers and reviewers, publishing interpretive guidance, and providing critical training.
