indie games people really need to get over their Nintendo boners for a second and think about the content and perspective of their work rather than uncritically embracing the idea of making everything into this vacuous "24/7 chill beats to relax to" escapist aesthetic experience
i don't mind cute aesthetics in themselves but they don't give you a blanket pass on having to confront and address the thornier issues that often come up with your game's approach... and a lot of people seem to act like it does.
there's a lot of clunkily melodramatic, one-dimensional heavy-handed games out there about "serious" issues too so i'm not saying cute games by any means are the only culprits here. just that they're not a pass to thinking about those issues.
