zero patience for the complaint that a book or movie or whatever is "derivative" of something else. give me the books and movies that are derivative of like nineteen other things all glued together with someone's personal spin or deconstruction or whatever, that is very good shit
also, like, ALL writing builds on or responds to or subverts ideas that already exist, come on
the literal fastest way to get me to read a book is to rec it like "I read books & watched movies in 17 different genres & binged all this anime and played video games for a year & took everything I liked about all those things & vomited up this glorious hairball of a book"

(also it makes me sad that books like this seem to almost universally have a hard time getting placed because they don't tick any one set of genre boxes at the exclusion of other sets of genre boxes, but that's a rant for another day)
