I don't know why it's so hard to accept that there are white, brown, and Black Iranians. All Iranians. Some are racialized as white in America, some are not.
The privilege is in how you're read.
Nationality =/= race =/= ethnicity
When people say "Iranians are people of color" or "Iranians are white", I'm always curious about which Iranians because both statements are technically correct.
Iran is a nation of Persians, Arabs, Azeris, Lurs, Kurds, Balochs, Bandaris, Turks, and many more ethnic groups. People of a nation don't all look alike and, therefore, don't all have the same racial experiences in the U.S. That's why those race bubbles and these convos are weird
Honestly, I'm mainly looking at fellow Iranians with this thread but people who have interacted with Iranians know that how we are read varies.
