I want to genuinely believe and hope that there are white people who care and advocate for Black and Brown lives and bodies. But some of this social media activism seems really performative.
When you share a post that deems #BlackLivesMatter , what is your intent behind the post? What conversations are you having with your fellow white people about the treatment and portrayal of Black and Brown bodies in the media?
How are you holding yourself accountable in educating yourself about the experiences Black and Brown people face in this country; without tokenizing or exploiting Black and Brown people to do that work for you?
These questions are meant to be rhetorical, but if anyone wants to share, my DMs are open.
I’m really thankful for my white friends who have engaged in conversation with me over this thread.
