Here is my story:

When I was 17, just shortly after secondary school. I started a group called Teensworld with other teenagers in my neighbourhood. When we started the plan was to have clubs in some schools in Jos. #BreakingBarriers https://twitter.com/akin_more/status/1265722786963750912
The aim of the group was to create clubs in schools where teenagers will be able to develop skills that is relevant in the 21st century. #BreakingBarriers
I approached a school, my sister was student at the school. The principal was unavailable and had to meet the vice principal. I was in such high spirit and didn't know what was about to hit me. 🤣

I have not even written JAMB. #BreakingBarriers
The woman looked at me confidently, in my mind like I have arrived. Obviously she saw my confidence from afar and she's about to break me. She said, "are you in University yet?

I answered,"No Ma". #BreakingBarriers
She said, 'Go to University first, come back and then we will listen.'

It was more like see we can't take you serious now until you BLOW. #BreakingBarriers
I was pained because I thought I was on a right path. Moving at a speed of light. Young man making history to help teenagers become technologically savvy. #BreakingBarriers
What she said stuck with me for years. And it formed a veil in my mind that I cannot do anything great because I will be rejected. This made me see rejection as a bad thing than a path to achieving success. #BreakingBarriers
When I enrolled for the remedial course in University, I thought I wasn't good enough for some courses. God has a great sense of humour and He placed me in one after the course. Then I began my journey to freedom and the veil was being removed. #BreakingBarriers
I have been rejected so many times after then, I don't even reflect on that first rejection I had for a major thing in my life. That rejection gave me redirection. It still formed the basis for my life work with teenagers anywhere I am. #BreakingBarriers
And here I want to share how I am overcoming rejection and not holding myself down from becoming who I have been called to be.

Here are the ways I am overcoming and taking needed steps daily: #BreakingBarriers
1. Process it: After you have been rejected, you need to ask yourself why was I rejected? And ask them why you were rejected? Feedback is a great tool in processing that rejection. #BreakingBarriers
2. Expectation: Keep your expectation at par. So that whatever happens you don't let it stop you from accessing what's right in front of you. #BreakingBarriers
3. You are Good Enough: Remind yourself that you are good enough. I am not saying psych yourself, nah! Deliberately and intentionally say it to yourself until it becomes you. So when a rejection comes, you don't linger in pain but keep moving.

4. Learn to Forget: Forget! Forget!! Forget!!! I have long forgotten this event of my life that until I saw it in my journal I was led to talk to talk about it. So learn to forget and move on. #BreakingBarriers
Lastly, you cannot drive a car looking backwards. You will crash. So don't live your life looking at those rejections, and what you have done wrong. You won't be able to live your utmost if you keep doing that. #BreakingBarriers
Look forward! Try that next opportunity, apply for that job opening, build that relationship. Don't ever stop trying. Keep Living and Keep Believing.

You are more because you are made for more.

Thank you. 🙏 #BreakingBarriers
