One thing that's helped me (HOPEFULLY) get better at allying is thinking about how angry I get when a man is like "oh I'm definitely not sexist, I'm a huge feminist" when like OK bro you're a dude in a sexist culture sooo! But...I'm a white person in a racist culture, sooo!

When there is a discussion going on in the LGBTQ+ community and straight allies jump in to take away time/attention, I hate it no matter how well-intended, which means I can see how my own well-meaning actions re: race have been harmful and silencing no matter what I intended.

It's not marginalization Olympics, but white people: white supremacy is real and vast and, like it or not, we're part of it. Work hard to overcome it, and expect nothing for it. This should be baseline humanity, not cause for ally cookies.
