/ If you didn't see #SoulBoy on @BBCOne you can watch it via @BBCiPlayer. Such an important documentary for more reasons than you might appreciate. Firstly, an intimate portrait of a lad in care finding and following his dream...
/ Secondly, a demonstration of brilliant independent film making, supported by the team from @BBCInsideOut in the East Midlands, who connect communities and hold those in power to account. This combination of featured and current affairs is so important...
/ Thirdly, it's all done on a modest budget, but comes at a time when the whole of the BBC is facing a huge financial challenge - it's absolutely vital that these teams are properly recognised for their extraordinary, original work.
/ Fourthly, colleagues like @AnthonyBartram and @nishachopra work hard to make stuff like this happen, so it's right this output gets a national platform - not only to reach a wide audience but also get the attention of senior bosses.
/ Those bosses are soon to make some tough decisions, and everyone understands this. However, the importance of first class regional current affairs cannot be understated. These teams have exposed scandals like that at Sports Direct and held to account public servants.
/ It cannot be right that they'd even comtemplate cutting such output in England, not least when current affairs in the UK Nations enjoys generous investment. You'll hear more about this in the coming days. But for now, enjoy #SoulBoy again. It's a wonderful half hour.
/ To clarify, by UK Nations I mean Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, whose current affairs output is very much a devolved matter.
