White people, learn to say, “I am in some ways unavoidably racist despite my best efforts to avoid bigoted behavior. I understand that as a recipient of white privilege I’m always benefitting from a power dynamic that oppresses non-whites. Racism is not a trait I’m immune to.”
Saying, “I am not racist” is a great way to signal to POC that you have not done even the least amount of work unpacking what it means to be white in America. Admitting you are subject to racist ideologies does not mean you are a bad person, it means you are trying to be better.
Also don’t just say the right thing. Actually search for ways you’re operating under biases & benefitting from the execution of those biases at a systemic & personal level. Then do your best to leverage your privilege in favor of those w less privilege. I know it’s hard, but try.
This hardly counts as “blowing up” but while you all are here it’d be really cool if some of you could match me by donating to http://minnesotafreedomfund.org/donate  especially all you white folks trying to figure out how to begin doing some good with your privilege.
