A lot of (white) people are surprised that many folks (especially BIPOC or those with mental health concerns) don't trust the police in Canada.

Racism and stigma against mental health, sex work & substance use are all prevalent in Canada – challenge your instinct to dial 911.
See someone being "sketchy" or possibly under the influence? Unless they're truly causing harm to themselves or others, maybe just wait and the situation will resolve itself. Or get in touch with local social services to see if they have any suggestions (tag those services here!)
Take some time to read about police brutality in Canada (literally just google "police racism Canada" or similar). Pick up books by @DesmondCole @policingblack. Think about how ~32% of local property taxes go to police, 7.6% to housing, 3.3% to paramedics, 1.7% to Public Health.
You can still love the police officers in your life & accept that they aren't the solution to every problem. As an ER nurse, I know that many people have experienced trauma at the hands of medical professionals & instead of being offended, I work to do better.
