Sobriety does not equal happiness. Hear me out: how many of you thought that getting sober would make you happy and it would magically fix all your problems? I did. But that’s not what happened. Sobriety pushed me to face my problems, and that wasn’t so pretty. 1/
I had to go through the rough sea of emotions that I had been numbing for so long. Sober me had to figure out what all these emotions even were! I didn’t just wake up on Feb 20, 2015 (after 1 day sober) and have a success. That took time & lots of work. 2/
This isn’t meant to discourage you, but more so to let you know you’re not alone. Sober me took a while to figure out, and I’m still working on her everyday. It’s not what a lack of substance can do for you, but what you can do without the substance. You can do amazing things 3/
but you have to start somewhere. If what you’ve been doing hasn’t worked, it’s time to make a change. If you want to be happy, you have to do something different & daring. Change isn’t comfortable. Being sober isn’t being happy, but the personal growth that begins in sobriety 4/
Is what will get you there. So if you’re sober and not happy, that’s NORMAL. No one said it’d be easy, but we have said it’s worth it. Hell, I’m not even happy everyday but I’m definitely content and not a seesaw of emotions! That to me is progress. That to me is a gift.
