I don’t want to hear about the benefits of capitalism until, AT A MINIMUM, the federal government pays out reparations for slavery.

In EVERY OTHER AREA we understand as a society that you are financially liable for wrecking other peoples stuff. I bust up your house? Sue me and I’ll have to pay. Did the government take your land to build a highway? They owe you just compensation under the takings clause.

Today’s white folks insistence that the reparation conversation has ANYTHING TO DO WITH THEM WHATSOEVER is just a further example of whiteness not being able to see itself as anything less than the center of the world.

You know who got reparations?

Japanese in the wake of the WWII internment camps through the Cvil Liberties Act of 1988.

Native Americans through the Indian Claime Commission in 1946.

Native Hawaiians through the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1920.

SO HOW THE HELL

And listen. This isn’t to say that the reparations those groups received were 1) adequate or 2) just. Do your own research among those communities and see whether the compensation matched the crime (spoiler: it didn’t).

BUT UNTIL BLACK FOLK GET ON THIS LIST THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS FRAUDULENT. HOW THE GOVERNMENT PAYING OUT THE JAPANEESE FOR INTERNMENT (as they should) BUT NOT BLACK FOLK FOR SLAVERY.
