hi, my name is Nabilat Kuta. I'm about to share to you the story of my cousin/older brother, Hakeem Kuta, and his story of racial injustice. (if their are any typos please correct me, my grammar is really bad)
In April of 2014, Hakeem was walking home with his friend at night when they started getting chased. As any 17 year old would do when something like that is happening to them, they would run. So Hakeem and his friend ran into a 6 story building, they ran all the way up to the(1/8
roof. Police men were already on the roof when they got up and they automatically assumed the Hakeem and his friend were doing something wrong. When the groups of people who were chasing him got up roof, the cops got even more suspicious and thought that they were all doing(2/8)
something bad. For some reason that police man eneded up pointing a gun at my cousin(Hakeem) and (like any 17 year old person of color would do in that type of situation), Hakeem raised his hands up and started backing up. The police man followed him while still pointing the(3/8)
gun at him. Hakeem forgot he was on the roof of a 6 story building and almost fell of. His friend grabbed his arm and tried to pull him back up but their is only so much weight that a teenager could take and Hakeem fell down of the roof of a 6 story building(4/8)
He had injuries on his back, the back of his legs, and the back of his neck. Of course he was rushed to the hospital and his parents were called. I clearly remember 8 year old me waking up at around 1am to hear my aunt sobbing to my mother on the phone saying "it's Hakeem" (5/8)
My mom and dad had to leave the house at 1am in the morning to go to the hospital leaving their 4 children at home because of this situation(6/8)
I was told that Hakeem was accused of smoking marijuana even though test results said otherwise. Still to this day when I search up his name and articles pop up, they say that he was up in a roof smoking marijuana. Still to this day justice has not been given to him(7/8)
search up "Hakeem Kuta" and you will see videos of my family on the news during his funeral. Please help me spread awareness about this situation so that these articles can change their words and he won't be accused of smoking anymore #racism #BlackLivesMatter
