Thank you for this thread, @doriecp. This is super helpful for people to know!

I'm going to add a couple more thoughts below to specific tweets in the thread. https://twitter.com/doriecp/status/1265703321119186947
I ask soooo many people to do free labor for the podcast I produce and the journal I edit, the book I am editing with two colleagues, etc etc. I WELCOME these questions. Please ask them. I will be very happy to answer. You won't offend me. https://twitter.com/doriecp/status/1265703325011513345?s=20
One of my favorite pieces of advice about this topic: https://twitter.com/doriecp/status/1265703332980686853?s=20

...is from this podcast interview with Seth Godin. https://tim.blog/2018/11/05/the-tim-ferriss-show-transcripts-seth-godin/
Seth says two things here that changed my life:

1- "One is I decided what I was going to do for a living, and I decided what I was willing to do for free. So if you want me to give a speech, you have to pay me. On the other hand, if you want to read my blog post, it’s free."
2- "A friend of mine gave me great advice many years ago, which was... that long ago he decided free or full-price. What he meant by that was he only did two types of speaking:
-free for causes he felt were worthwhile,
-and absolute full price, no negotiation."
Another tweet from Dorie that needs to get added to this thread: https://twitter.com/doriecp/status/1265711816434483202?s=20

I do my full-time job for a living. They pay me. I also require payment for speaking that forces me to be away from my kids overnight. No exceptions.

I do the podcast for free.
You get to make your division however you want, no judgement from me!
I have clear lines between what I do for a living and what I do out of love and devotion, and I hope you do too.
