A mover & shaker in labor and politics, many newspaper political cartoons depicted @UAW President Walter Reuther in the 1950s and 60s.

Sometimes artists would send him the original sketches, and I recently came across this collection in his archives at the @ReutherLibrary.
As a leader who challenged the status quo of industrial labor relations and the traditional role unions played in American society, many of these editorial cartoons were skeptical of Reuther& #39;s agenda. Still, the artist often wrote a warm note with their autograph.
Reuther& #39;s contentious relationship with AFL-CIO President George Meany, perhaps the two most important labor leaders at the time, was a popular topic. (Heads up, @thehousered)
Political cartoons highlighting his negotiations and bargaining gains between the @UAW and Big Three.
Of note are the cartoons with C.E. Wilson, @GM& #39;s president, who Reuther negotiated the Treaty of Detroit with in 1950. Though both considered the other a thorn in their side, Wilson and Reuther also had a deep respect for each other.
Political cartoons chronicling Reuther& #39;s strategies and ambitions for organized labor.
50 years ago, Walter and May Reuther passed away, and we are taking this time to remember different aspects of their lives through archival materials here at the @ReutherLibrary.
